Connect an email mailbox
Pick your provider and enter its values: IMAP server, port, encryption, password.
On this page
Documont collects the attachments of new emails from a mailbox and files them as documents. The mailbox is only read: nothing is marked as read, moved or deleted.
Path: Sources → IMAP (Gmail, iCloud, …) → Connect → enter the credentials → Connect. Documont checks the connection straight away. If it fails, nothing is saved.

Each provider’s values are in the table Values per provider.

Other provider: Server address, port and type of password are in the provider’s help under “IMAP”. Documont accepts port 993 with SSL/TLS or port 143 with STARTTLS; other ports do not work.
Folder#
The folder Documont reads from. Default: INBOX, the inbox. A different folder if a rule in the mailbox moves the document emails there; the name exactly as the provider shows it.
Capture emails from#
“From now on”: only emails that arrive after connecting. With a date: also every email from that day on. Older emails can be fetched later; Documont never captures less than what was chosen.
What Documont takes#
Only attachments of these file types: PDF; images (JPEG, PNG, WebP, TIFF, HEIC/HEIF). Other attachments – calendar entries, ZIP archives, text files, for instance – and attachments over 150 MB are passed over. The same attachment is filed only once.
The “Needs attention” badge#
“Needs attention” on a source: the last collection failed, usually because an app password was changed or withdrawn. Documont keeps trying – after 30 seconds, 2 minutes, 10 minutes, then every 30 minutes – and does not switch the source off. Whatever arrives in the meantime is picked up at the next successful collection. A new password is entered by setting the connection up again.
Several mailboxes#
Any number of mailboxes can be connected. Each is its own source with its own credentials; two folders of the same mailbox are two sources.
