Microsoft mailboxes
Connect Outlook.com, Hotmail, Live and Microsoft 365 by signing in with Microsoft; Exchange on your own server via IMAP.
On this page
Outlook.com, Hotmail, Live and Microsoft 365: Microsoft does not allow connecting with a password (IMAP). Documont connects these mailboxes by signing in with Microsoft.
Path: Sources → “Microsoft 365 & Exchange” → Connect. Microsoft’s sign-in page opens. After sign-in, Documont only gets read access to the mailbox; nothing is marked as read, moved or deleted.
Work accounts (Microsoft 365)#
As a rule, the company’s administrator has to approve Documont’s sign-in; otherwise Microsoft stops the sign-in.
Exchange on your own server#
Connect via IMAP with a password, as with other providers: Connect an email mailbox. Server address and port come from the administrator: port 993 with SSL/TLS or 143 with STARTTLS.
Requirements on the server:
- IMAP switched on: the “Microsoft Exchange IMAP4” and “Microsoft Exchange IMAP4 Backend” services.
- Reachable from the internet, port 993 or 143 open in the firewall.
- A valid certificate; Documont rejects a self-signed one.
What Documont takes#
The attachments of new emails in the inbox – as with IMAP mailboxes: What Documont takes.
Message when connecting with a password#
Connecting such a mailbox via IMAP with a password returns “Your provider rejected these credentials”. The credentials are not wrong; a new password changes nothing.
